Organised in close partnership with the National Film Centre of Latvia and the Latvian Animation Association, the event will bring together local and international animation professionals in Riga on 23 and 24 October to share experience and success stories, showcase the diversity of leading Baltic animation production companies and their works-in-progress, and foster future collaborations.\u00a0<i>Baltic Animation Meet-Up<\/i>\u00a0will take place at cinema\u00a0<i>Splendid Palace<\/i> and will be open to holders of RIGA IFF industry accreditations.<\/p>\n                    <div class=\"row justify-content-center buttonrow shortcode_buttonrow\">\n\n                \n                    <div class=\"w-auto shortcode_buttonrow_single_wrap\">\n                                                    <a href=\"https:\/\/rigaiff.lv\/en\/bamu\" class=\" white_arrow\"><div class=\"ticketbox_intickets\">\n\n                                        Learn more\n                                    <\/div><\/a>\n\n                    <\/div>\n                            <\/div>\n\n        \n    \n<p>Over the past decade, Baltic animation has repeatedly captured the attention of the global film community and its representatives. This is evidenced by the short film\u00a0<i>Sierra\u00a0<\/i>(2022) by Estonian director Sander Joon and\u00a0<i>My Marriage Project<\/i>\u00a0(<i>Mans laul\u012bbu projekts,<\/i>\u00a02022) by Latvian director Signe Baumane being shortlisted for the Oscar nominations as well as the notable works of many other Baltic animation artists. The grand success of the Latvian animation\u00a0<i>Flow<\/i>\u00a0(<i>Straume<\/i>, 2024), which has resulted in more than 70 different awards, including an Academy Award for the Best Animated Feature, is also proof of the artistically rich, dynamic, and tradition-laden environment of the region.<\/p>\n<p>In response to this growing recognition and in order to turn attention into lasting collaborations,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rigaiff.lv\/forum-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/rigaiff.lv\/forum-2025&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1756474476373000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2RjPoS1soCGoZsDyHwBtGl\">RIGA IFF FORUM<\/a>, together with the National Film Centre of Latvia and the Latvian Animation Association, reintroduces\u00a0<i>Baltic Animation Meet-Up<\/i>\u00a0in RIGA IFF FORUM programme as a meeting platform for animation professionals. The central event of the section \u2013 presentations of Baltic animation studios and their upcoming projects \u2013 will take place on 24 October and offer a broad look at the region\u2019s creative potential, themes, and stylistic variety. Participating studios and their representatives will be announced in September.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, attendees and participants of\u00a0<i>Baltic Animation Meet-Up\u00a0<\/i>will have the chance to explore three case studies from Latvian and Czech animation. Sharing both local and international distribution and marketing strategies of\u00a0<i>Flow<\/i>, producers Mat\u012bss Ka\u017ea and Gregory Zalcman will explore how the success story of Flow can pave the way for the future of independent animation. Directors Lauris and Raitis \u0100beles will offer an insight to the behind-the-scenes of their feature animation\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rigaiff.lv\/films-2025\/dieva-suns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/rigaiff.lv\/films-2025\/dieva-suns&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1756474476373000&amp;usg=AOvVaw33QZ340gWMxx_JvMmJ98Lu\"><i>Dog of God\u00a0<\/i><\/a>(<i>Dieva suns<\/i>, 2025) \u2013 translating history and myth to the big screen, pushing boundaries both narratively and visually and deciding against use of artificial intelligence. Meanwhile producer Martin Vandas will provide understanding into the creation and distribution of the Czech animation co-production<i>\u00a0<\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/rigaiff.lv\/films-2025\/burvju-darza-stasti\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/rigaiff.lv\/films-2025\/burvju-darza-stasti&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1756474476373000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3wo1Y2C3EyTH4JGcXZZcRX\"><i>Tales from the Magic Garden<\/i><\/a><i>\u00a0<\/i>(<i>Poh\u00e1dky po babi\u010dce<\/i>, 2025) and share how to talk about topics such as mourning and death within the framework of a work intended for children.<\/p>\n<p><i>Baltic Animation Meet-Up<\/i>\u00a0programme will be rounded off by expert lectures and a wide range of other RIGA IFF FORUM activities, including networking event, a feature film and series project market, in-depth evaluation session for short films, as well as other happenings tailored to industry professionals, making RIGA IFF and its industry section an ideal and meaningful meeting place for building connections and forging new collaborations.
