The main characters of the animated short film series Shammies – Sockie, Hankie, Mitten and Pillow – live in a textile house where they learn about the world around them under the watchful eye of Mr. Cat. The Shammies’ tireless imagination and exciting adventures are brought to life as an animated collage made from pieces of fabric, buttons, ribbons and lace.
Over the course of ten years Shammies have won over the hearts of viewers in Latvia and beyond. For many kids these short films are the first experience with local filmmaking. “These are wonderful toys, more interesting to play with than fancy dolls. The properties of things allow you to imagine their personalities, and that’s where the story begins. This is how small children play, as do we, the creators of Shammies,” says the writer Inese Zandere.
The animation series include 10 episodes:
How Shammies Bathed (2010);
How Shammies were Getting Married (2014);
How Shammies Got Well (2015);
