Feelings from the past call Sohini, a young poet and journalist, to search for her childhood love. “Like a traveller without a compass”, she sighs. She is looking for Sagnik, an eternal student, who is seduced by the allure of gambling. Their game of hide-and-seek through Calcutta can begin: idle strolls, labyrinthine streets, fruit and vegetable stalls, unexpected meetings and advice. Maybe in between all of this, the two are destined to… meet.
Siegfried is a French composer, musician and filmmaker who lives a nomadic lifestyle, but is currently based in Latvia. Continuing in the style of the rhythms of night and day life that he has begun to develop in his previous works, most notably in Riga (Take One) (2017), which follow the logic and character of a musical composition, this time he brings the audience to Calcutta, a city of 15 million people. In this unpredictable, audiovisual odyssey, we meet an Orpheus and a Eurydice, whose life paths are tinged with an anxious energy, and seekers can find both naivety and wisdom in the frailty of life’s moments.
Foreword by the programme curator: A film that follows the seductive pace of music, like Ariadne’s thread. The pulsation of the soundtrack and the busy music of the streets is as evocative as the protagonists’ stories.
