A domestic scene. Flies buzz around and crash into a lamp. Fibers from a woman’s slipper get caught in a mat. A gecko crawls around a terrarium. A man and a woman begin their daily chores, spinning round faster and faster. Gradually these mundane scenes acquire a specific rhythm, the tempo accelerates. The microcosms begin to interact – ever faster and with more precision, there exists a cosmic pattern that must be followed!
Director Marta Magnuska has said that the foundations of cinematic form and principles are fundamental to her work. The rhythms and repetitions of her hand-drawn charcoal montage create something like an animated musical fugue. This film, which screened at the Locarno Film Festival, was co-produced by the internationally known Latvian studio Atom Art.
