Dede the dog has always been there. Whether she was curled up next to the bed, played in the garden, ran laps along the river, or was taking a break on the sofa. One day, Dede is no longer around.
Screened in the Generation Kplus competition for children and young people at the Berlinale, Czech animator Philippe Kastner’s moving new short film reflects on losing a close friend in a way that is sensitive to its young audience. It doesn’t all have to be dark, black and white, or using burned-out colours — memories put colour in what remains and in what is brightest.
