Ksenia, 21, makes art, curates exhibitions and spends time with her family, friends and lover. Her body has become a kind of diary and she “writes” her life down on it. She wants to forget the period of life that she lived without responsibility and covers it with black ink. However, this time resurfaces: Ksenia has to face justice, not knowing how much she will have to sacrifice being free in the future to be free from the past.
Renāte Saulīte is a student at the National Film School at the Latvian Academy of Culture. Her film finds itself in an intimate puzzle, carefully solving the narrative and revealing detail after detail of Ksenia’s life. Presented at SHORT RIGA Test Screenings, this documentary portrait disarms with the ability of its director and creative team to get very close to the protagonist without criticising or judging her life. At the same time, the film holds out the promise that change is possible, but is it easy to change a life when it hasn’t even really begun?
