A late night. As winter melts into spring, a man’s remains are found in a snowy field. His identity is unknown, but a 20 zloty note and a short scribble in Cyrillic are found in the dead man’s pocket. Anna, a junior investigator, is assigned to the mystery and suspects that what has happened is not as easy to solve as it first seems.
The Case of N.N. is visually sparse, aloof and precise, almost approaching the aesthetic polish of David Fincher and other pioneers of the mystery genre. Taipei-born director Yu-Sung Chang studied English Literature and Linguistics in Taiwan and Film Directing at the Film School in Lodz, Poland in 2017. His short films have screened at both local and international festivals. In this precise film, the director plays with variations of alienation with the camera, making this procedural cinema a mosaic of time and evidence.
