The tropical hall of a zoo is altered by an encounter between a woman and the crocodile keeper. While observing and being observed by crocodiles, they talk about family memories with reptiles, ghosts, and the history of the zoo.
After arriving in Germany, Colombia-born director Jazmin Rojas Forero visited the “jungle” of the Düsseldorf zoo, experiencing, as said in the film, “the uncomfortable feeling of being at home”. She creates a fascinating space to reflect on displacement without any crocodile tears, a lush landscape where memories and senses blur into intriguing perspectives. In this cradle of leaves, water and scales, one can become a cold-blooded animal or even a zoo – a metaphor for our own condition where instincts are studied and preserved, displayed and tamed.
