A free adaptation of “The Book of High Wisdom of the World and Nature” by the 18th century Baltic German pastor, author, and scholar G. F. Stender who spent the last thirty years of his life in a remote corner of Courland.
Gotthard Friedrich Stender lives among Latvians and studies their language and customs with great interest, resolutely trying to understand, enlighten and educate them. For this reason, he writes “Latvian physics” explaining the arrangement of the solar system, the origin of various natural phenomena and other wonders of the world. Latvians are eager students, yet somehow, they still manage to combine the new teachings with their superstitious beliefs. But what happens when the book is finished, and nature explained?
