Three Mothers unfolds in a secluded mountain village, delving into the intertwined lives of Lena, a resilient farmer grappling with the aftermath of her husband’s suspicious death, and Chiara, who returns to her hometown with the intention of doing business with the abandoned family property. As their passionate romance flourishes amidst a conservative community, their love is met with scorn and resistance, especially from Gianni, an intellectually disabled man infatuated with Lena. Amidst this complex web of relationships, the village discovers that a bear has killed one of Nadia’s cows. Nadia, the dominant matriarch, orchestrates a cover-up, disguising Chiara’s murder as a bear attack to protect her son Gianni. Lena, coerced into silence, is faced with a harrowing ultimatum from Nadia after discovering the truth about her husband’s death. To save her son from being held hostage by Nadia, Lena resorts to extreme measures to confront her adversaries wielding a shotgun. The escalating violence culminates in a gripping chase through the forest. In a dramatic climax, the bear emerges as a symbolic force, delivering an unforeseen salvation by vanquishing the malevolent Nadia, thus symbolizing the interconnectedness of nature’s inherent balance and its role in delivering justice.
