After studying cinema at a French university, Robert Raska Ly specialized in directing, focusing on screenwriting and script development. He began his career as a film critic before traveling to Montreal, where he started shooting spontaneous, self-directed films. This formative experience inspired him to further explore the possibilities of cinema.
Upon returning to France, he joined a major advertising agency within the Publicis Group, while continuing to travel across Europe and create short films in countries such as Austria, Germany, Finland, Serbia, and Romania. In 2016, he moved to Estonia and began collaborating with the production company Kinommitus, developing his distinctive cinematic voice.
Rene Katsev is an Estonian film producer. In 2023, he began collaborating with Robert Raska Ly through the Tallinn-based production company Kinommitus. Their partnership quickly grew into a creative alliance, producing two short films: Homsest Eestlane and Mikrofon Peas. Both projects explore contemporary Estonian identity and culture through innovative storytelling.
Building on the success of these shorts, Rene Katsev and Robert Raska Ly are now developing Robert’s debut feature film. Combining Katsev’s production expertise with Raska Ly’s artistic vision, the project aims to strengthen their place within the new wave of Estonian cinema.
