A girl named Pigtail wants to spend her winter holidays skating, but just before Christmas, Little Brother arrives in the family, and Grandma comes to visit from the countryside. Her keen desire to learn how to skate is ruined! To get her parents’ attention back and save the holidays, Pigtail, along with her imaginary friend Mr. Sleeplessness, comes up with a cunning plan – they devise a way to send Little Brother and Grandma to the Moon.
The author of Shammies short films and Little Bird’s Diary (2007), Jansons avoids explaining the world and didacticism, something filmmaking adults often tend to do in children’s films. In this colourful animated short film, full of tender humour, ample space is given for the young viewer to draw their own conclusions. Acceptance, empathy, and the ability to find mutual understanding – these are just a few of the subjects of this short piece, but their resolution certainly makes this a short film to return to again and again.
