Emma’s mothers have two kinds of presence. One is always near, yet always busy; the other is far away. The teenager longs for her parents and quietly resents that neither of them is ever quite what Emma needs them to be. Until, on a perfectly ordinary day, something breaks – beneath the everyday surface, a darker, more uncomfortable layer of closeness is exposed.

A fragile, deeply familiar story about the love between parent and child, that sometimes hurts right where we long for its presence most. The creator of the film, Delvoye, is one of the most noted young talents in French and Belgian animation – her work focuses on family relationships and the complex inner world of teenagers. The film was screened in Generation Kplus at Berlinale, at the Anima, the International Animation Film Festival, and won Grand Prix at the Rennes festival.
