A young man tries to reconstruct his identity through the fragmented memories of a broken past. He has everything, yet feels disconnected from the world around him, trapped in a limbo between what was and what could be. Even though everything appears normal on the surface, his thoughts constantly drift back to “the Island” and to the blurred faces of those who were once his family.

ALESSANDRO NOVELLI

Director

Alessandro Novelli has worked as a director across narrative cinema and commercial production for two decades. He believes stories drive cultural change, while images are their language. De Imperio (2023) premiered in Locarno’s Pardi di Domani competition, while Contact (2017) and The Guardian (2015) were selected for Annecy’s Official Short Film Competition.

Sniedze Kāle is a Latvian film producer and head of animation studio Studija Kokles. With a background in art history and curatorial practice, she focuses on auteur-driven, artistically ambitious animation. Since 2019, she has produced animated shorts and is currently producing Kārlis Vītols’ feature film The Northern Star while developing new director-led projects.
