INSIDE

Through contemporary dance, INSIDE explores the inner landscape of an immigrant living in Finland. The film moves from being oneself to confronting a lonely, disconnected and egocentric way of life. It depicts the pressure to succeed and the yearning for one’s roots in a setting where colonial structures still prevail. The protagonist is a fascinating Finnish-Burkinabé contemporary dance choreographer living in Helsinki.

JENNI KIVISTÖ

Director

Jenni Kivistö is a Finnish filmmaker known for creative, visually strong documentary cinema. Her co-directed features with Jussi Rastas include Silent Legacy (2025), which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival and Colombia in My Arms (2020), winner of Best Nordic Documentary at the Göteborg Film Festival. Kivistö’s own works also include Land Within (2016), premiered at DOK Leipzig and Mother (2016), winner of the Silver Mikeldi at Zinebi, screened at several major international film festivals like Clermont-Ferrand.

JUSSI RASTAS

Director

Jussi Rastas is a Finnish filmmaker known for creative, visually strong documentary cinema. His co-directed features with Jenni Kivistö include Silent Legacy (2025), which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival, and Colombia in My Arms (2020), winner of Best Nordic Documentary at the Göteborg Film Festival. Rastas began his career as a cinematographer before moving into directing and today runs the Helsinki-based production company Väki Films.

Ella Ruohonen is a Helsinki-based producer with nearly two decades of experience in the film industry, particularly in documentary filmmaking. Her recent productions include both short and feature-length documentaries as well as more experimental films.
