A newly engaged couple, Jurģis and Luīze, visit the groom’s family. Luīze’s presence confronts their cold, distant relationships just as the father’s efforts to save the family from an inherited curse have once again failed. An exchange of equal measure demands something more precious—a sacrifice that doesn’t cost just a heart. Despite the conflicting obligations to his family and his new life, Jurģis’s choice of action gives him a chance to sever the ties that bind him to the past.
