This is the first day of the Cannes Film Festival and we are announcing the first film of RIGA IFF 2019! We are happy to announce that we will be screening a film presented in the competition section of the Cannes Film Festival – the newest work Sorry We Missed You by the outstanding director Ken Loach. The film focuses on one of the many families stuck in debts caused by the financial crisis of 2008 and forced to work their way out. An opportunity arises when Ricky gets hold of a shiny new van and has the chance to run a franchise as a self-employed delivery driver. Both Ricky and his wife, a carer, work hard. The family unit is strong but when both are pulled in different directions everything comes to breaking point.
Being one of the few directors awarded with two Golden Palms and having received many other awards, Ken Loach is the most successful director in the history of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. He has won lifetime achievement awards in both Cannes and Berlinale: the Honorary Golden Lion in 1994 and the Honorary Golden Bear in 2014. At 82, Loach is reluctant to say whether this is his last work. Dolan, Almodovar, Dardenne brothers – these are only some of the directors that participate in this year’s Cannes Official Selection.
We remind you that on May 29 a limited offer of one hundred exclusive ten-ticket packs will be launched. It is your chance to spend a lot less on the festival attendance or make a nice present for someone special!
