Welcome to RIGA IFF 2024

This year, the Riga International Film Festival (RIGA IFF) will be bringing audiences and film professionals together for the 11th time. The festival, which is the biggest celebration of cinema in Latvia, will take place on 17–27 October. In its four competition sections, RIGA IFF aims to highlight bold and innovative films for keen and inquisitive minds. Filmmakers are invited to submit their work to these sections from 12 March 2024. For inquiries you are welcome to reach out to enter@rigaiff.lv.

RIGA IFF is looking for distinct voices and auteurs from the Baltic Sea region and the Nordic countries that use an innovative cinematic language. The RIGA IFF Feature Film Competition reflects transitions and contemporary trends in cinema; by establishing a specific geographic frame, these trends become even more intriguing as the cinematic works made on different sides of the same sea represent distinctly different schools, traditions, languages, and visions. The 10 films that are ultimately selected for the competition form a present-day contemplation on the cinema of tomorrow.

Films produced or co-produced by the Russian Federation and Belarus will not be accepted.

The BALTIC MUSIC VIDEO Competition (BMV) endeavors to uphold the belief that the music video is an independent and powerful short format in its own right. The RIGA IFF curators look for videos that challenge the audience and push the boundaries of format, contents, and artistic expression. The screening of this programme is designed as a special event in itself – it is a lively meeting between music video creators, musicians and composers, curators, the international jury, and the audience.

Videos produced or co-produced by the Russian Federation and Belarus will not be accepted.

Whether animated, narrative, documentary, or experimental, the RIGA IFF Short Film International Competition seeks to highlight auteur cinema and distinctive forms of expression in short format. The festival’s curators select up to 25 of the most interesting submissions from around the world to be part of the competition. The jury selects a single candidate for the European Short Film 2025 Award from the films screened in the RIGA IFF Short Film National and International Competitions.

Films produced or co-produced by the Russian Federation and Belarus will not be accepted.

The local film scene is particularly dynamic when it comes to short films. The films that are selected for the National Short Film Competition have been made in 2023 or later and represent a variety of genres and forms. The competition is judged by an international jury to ensure that the unique features of Latvian-made films are acknowledged in a broader perspective. The jury selects a single candidate for the European Short Film 2024 Award from the films screened in the RIGA IFF Short film National and International Competitions.

Films produced or co-produced by the Russian Federation and Belarus will not be accepted.
