RIGA IFF, the boutique film industry meeting point of the Baltics, is set in the compact, culturally vibrant capital of Latvia – rich in UNESCO-listed heritage and contemporary city life. Its competitions, featuring two carefully assembled international juries, form both the epicentre of the public programme and a cornerstone of the industry forum held alongside.

Reflecting shifts and contemporary trends in cinema, the competition showcases no more than 10 feature-length films made on different sides of the same sea.
Representing radically different schools, traditions, and artistic visions of cinema from the Baltic Sea region, the Nordic countries, and Ukraine, all works are characterized by innovative cinematic language and a distinctive authorial voice. There are no genre or form restrictions – documentary, fiction, animation, or hybrid works will be considered.
An internationally renowned jury will present the winner with the main Bronze Rooster award along with a monetary prize of EUR 5,000.
Under 30 minutes? Showcases a distinctive form of expression? Makes one question: what is cinema? Perfect.
It doesn’t matter, whether it’s animation, audiovisual experments, fiction, or documentary. The festival selects up to 25 shorts from around the world that stand out for their bold auteur vision.
An internationally renowned jury will present the winner with the Bronze Rooster award along with a monetary prize of EUR 2,000.
RIGA IFF is also one of 31 film festivals whose jury nominates a candidate for the European Film Academy award European Short Film – Prix Vimeo 2028.
