Rainy Days

Lietus dienas
Directed by: Vladimir Leschiov
LV/CA 20148'

It is August. An elderly Japanese man boards a ferry bound for an unknown island. The smattering, intrusive rain allows him to reminisce about his youth. His memories are interrupted by a mysterious woman on a motorcycle.

Japanese professionals and audiences have enjoyed Vladimir Leschiov’s films for almost two decades and this short is interwoven with Japanese motifs. Mount Fuji, the city of Fukuoka and the pure landscape feature in this work. The calligraphy-style, hand drawn animation is created out of black tea and ink, while the concise story is like a haiku seeking to reconcile with the present.
