Marcel is spending his last summer break in Provence before starting school. His usual adventurous summer is suddenly interrupted by Isabelle, who has just moved into the luxurious house next door with her sophisticated family. Getting to know her makes Marcel ashamed of his family’s modest lifestyle. What he doesn’t know is that Isabelle has a secret.
A colourful, historical adventure drama that explores what life was like in the early 20th century. Based on an autobiographical novel that French director Marcel Pagnol wrote about his childhood, the film brings the pages of the book to life and is disarming in its portrayal of the fragility of young feelings.
Foreword by the programme curator: As light in tone as a summer in the south, this contemporary tale of self-awareness will appeal to children and adults alike.
