A woman lies in the warm embrace of darkness. A strange, inexplicable glow appears in the house. Her son, meanwhile, is awake – he is very close, in the next room. Silence surrounds him too. Before parting, mother and son are united once more by a fragile dream.

A languid cinematic ecstasy that evokes the mesmerising games with time of the festival darling, the Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul. Barcelona-born Javier Calvo de Cabrera has forged a path in experimental filmmaking: his reference point in his latest works – both in this short film in the RIGA IFF Short Film International Competition and his recent film The Scaffold (2023) – is a protagonist who sleeps and drifts off to sleep.
