BERLINALE 2019 RIGA opening – a System Crasher’s longing for home

BERLINALE 2019 RIGA hosts a selection of films from Germany’s most important cinema event Berlinale, depicting its strong influence on the trend developments in film art. This selection will see its opening on October 23 with the stellar debut film “System Crasher” directed by Nora Fingscheidt.

“System Crasher” is the laureate of Berlinale’s Silver Bear Alfred Bauer Prize. It depicts 9-year-old Benni on her wild quest for a home. This film is a result of a research spanning over many years, following the director’s first encounter with the unofficial term system crasher. The story focuses on Benni’s point of view: the confusing number of “homes”, the changing guardians and the constant and dizzying disruption of relationships. The director reflects: “Children’s violence is a cry for help. Always.”

BERLINALE 2019 RIGA is not just a unique opportunity to see these films on big screens in Riga, it can be regarded as a present-day reflection of the German society and culture life. BERLINALE 2019 RIGA is made in partnership with the Goethe Institute in Riga.
