RIGA IFF 2026 Take Two

The Fade of Day

The Fade of Day Directed by: Jason Todd
Produced by: Jason Todd, Fjord Films
CA 2026 12' fr

Young father’s diary. Seeking refuge in the countryside, he questions himself: what legacy will he leave for his newborn son? His experience becomes almost horror-like when someone intrudes his dear, familiar home. How can one exist when there is so much uncertainty and confusion?

This is fatherhood, therapy and Stan Brakhage’s Window Water Baby Moving (1959) in a contemporary context. The experimental short is based on Canadian director Todd’s personal experience of his fatherhood and life with hearing impairment – the film offers the prosaic progress of the events, allowing to hear the character in first person and employing aesthetics of the so-called “functional impairment”. Todd has worked in the film festival devoted to cinema of Quebec, Rendez-Vous Québec Cinéma, he has also been the artistic director of documentary films streaming platform, Tënk, and a film distributor and mentor for artists of native origin.
