The retrospective and research section of RIGA IFF – IN TECHNO VERITAS, created with the help of guest curator Viktors Freibergs – will be opened with a very special one-off screening of ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ on October 22, 20:30, at the Large hall of ‘Splendid Palace’ cinema.
‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ (1968), the legendary film symphony made by the extraordinary visionary and great director Stanley Kubrick was something completely unexpected for the entire film industry – its special effects of unprecedented quality and unconventional narrative made it a turning point in the development of sci-fi genre. It inspired a whole generation of directors, including George Lucas (‘Star Wars’), who has said that the appearance of this film attracted an adult audience to science fiction film, offering more than just entertainment.
