Thirteen-year-old Anastasija always makes sure her hair is braided and tries to get used to a strictly ordered life. She longs for a dog and for someone to take care of her. The teenager spends her days in an orphanage together with younger sister Diāna. One day, the Johnson family from America turn up and want to adopt both girls. Ignoring the orphanage director’s advice, Anastasia instead decides to look up her mother who hasn’t come to visit in a while. She hopes with all her heart that her mother’s promises to take care of her and lead a better life together are true.

Matīss Kaža was born in Sweden and raised in Latvia and holds a BA in Film and Television Production from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. One of the most prolific filmmakers from the new generation of Latvian cinema, he works both as a director and a producer. Being only 27, he has already directed six feature-length fiction and documentary films, which have screened internationally.
Linda Olte is a film director and screenwriter. She has worked at the Latvian Television on the production of documentary films, series and TV shows. Linda is interested in socially responsible and sensitive cinema, which also shows in her feature debut “Sisters”. She has received Latvian National film award “Lielais Kristaps” for her editing work at Ieva Ozolina’s documentary “My Father the Banker”, which was screened at IDFA.
