Franz and Milena – between them a distance, her husband and loads of letters – it is love that fills Kafka’s life with light and hope and at the same time illuminates the fears and darkness in him. The animated short Kafka. In Love is based on Kafka’s Letters to Milena. It explores less known, but nonetheless extraordinary and puzzling aspects of Kafka’s personality.

Zane Oborenko is a Latvian artist, animator exploring the tension between the desire for connection and the reality of feeling alone and lonely through her work. She studied art from a young age and later focused on animation, specializing in the sand animation technique. Her diploma film, IMG_00:01.JPG, won the Best Nordic and Baltic Student Film Award at the Fredrikstad Film Festival in 2014. Her work has been exhibited in various festivals and projects, including the historical exhibition “The KGB Building – The ‘Corner House'”. She continues to create animations using sand and is currently working on an animated short, Kafka. In Love, which won the Best Short Film Project Award at the CEE Animation Forum in 2019.
Sabīne Andersone is the managing director of studio Atom Art and producer with almost 15 years of experience on different genres and formats of animated films – artistic animation shorts, pre-school series, and TV specials, as well as features. Her productions have been selected to festivals all over the world, such as Annecy, Ottawa, Hiroshima, Stuttgart, Zagreb, Clermont-Ferrand and others. She is Co-founder and member of Latvian Animation Association.
