Mark, a young man with autism, works in pet euthanasia and dreams of driving trains – “just go straight, no thinking.” In therapy, he meets Lera, a sharp girl with cerebral palsy, and their bond deepens silently. Then war begins. Lera dies in a missile strike. Mark is captured and forced to work unloading corpse trains. Learning to drive a locomotive, he hijacks one full of bodies, aiming to cross the border and show Russia the horror. Like in their favourite novel, he chooses return over escape.

Justė Michailinaitė (Toxic, Locarno winner), an emerging producer, represents Broom Films, founded in 2016 in Lithuania, which produces and co-produces features, documentaries, and animation. Its works include Aurora’s Sunrise (Annecy, APSA winner) and Maria’s Silence (Berlinale Panorama, 2024).
