The event consists of a closed screening of short films by directors from the Baltic States and invited countries, after which an international panel of experts will provide feedback, recommendations for finishing the films, and suggestions on festival strategy. The basic principle of the event is to gather representatives of notable film festivals and talent scouts in one place. The screenings should serve as a springboard for getting the selected films into the festival circuit. SHORT RIGA Test Screenings are planned to take place from 19 to 21 October on site in Riga.
The curators of SHORT RIGA Test Screenings select 10 to 14 promising short films that are split into two screenings held over two days. The films are evaluated by a commission of five experts that changes yearly so as to guarantee in-depth evaluations from different perspectives. The panel will have familiarised themselves with the projects in advance, but final feedback and evaluations will follow only after seeing the films on the big screen.
The participants have access to on-site pitching training prior to their presentations.
Before each film, the filmmakers will explain what stage their film is currently at and what the main issues and questions that they wish to clarify are. The experts will make comments and take questions after each film. Further communication on the projects takes place at one to one meetings.

Catherine Colas studied literature and theatre at the Sorbonne in Paris. During her studies, she also trained as an actress and subsequently ran a theatre group with focus on improvisation. Colas has worked for the German-French culture channel ARTE since 1995. She is responsible for the ARTE-produced magazine Kurzschluss on ZDF and is also in charge of international debuts. She buys short and medium-length films and loves art.
A specialist in short films in France, from 2001 to 2020 Pascale Faure directed the Short Programs and Creations unit of Canal +. She has fostered the emergence of new talents and developed a bridge between short and feature films at Canal+. We can mention among the talents accompanied from short to long: Julia Ducournau, Maimouna Doucouré, Ladj Ly.
In 2020, she created her company L'Œil en plus. She is currently a Cinema consultant for short and feature films and works with various producers as a script doctor.
Marie-Pauline Mollaret is the head of the short film selection committee for La Semaine de la Critique in Cannes. She also works as a film critic for different French magazines, and as a programmer for the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, and the PIAFF – the Paris International Animation Film Festival.
Sydney Neter started out as a production assistant for features and commercials in Amsterdam. In 1994, he founded the international boutique sales agency SND Films, selling award winning international short films, TV-movies and (feature) documentaries. Sydney has been on the Dutch Film Fund shorts commission from 2001 to 2010 and on the board of directors of the International Short Film Festival Go Short! in Nijmegen until 2011 and continued to be on the board of advisory afterwards.
He has worked on numerous feature films, documentaries, and short films that have been selected for A-class festivals, such as Karlovy Vary, Sheffield Doc/Fest, Tallinn Black Nights, Moscow International Film Festival and others. He has received the national film awards both as the best editor and the best documentary director.
